CARNAC PREHISTORY MUSEUM

Musée de Préhistoire de Carnac

The founding of the Carnac Prehistory Museum in 1882 has made it possible to conserve many of the artefacts found during the digs around the megalithic sites of the region, and to keep them in the region.

Visiting the museum is wholly complementary with visiting the megalithic site. The collection gives an overall view of megalithism, and its diversity, as well as the time frame and geographic area it spanned.

The museum also provides an opportunity to see things that cannot be seen on the sites : sites which are inaccessible or damaged and carvings which are badly eroded.
